Turning the Tide -- Stonewall Democrats Making a Difference

Every vote counts and by the numbers, the Stonewall Democrats of Pinellas County have been working to make a difference in this election.

  • 3 - With our support, three of our chapter members were elected as delegates to this summer's Democratic National Convention by their respective district caucuses held March 1. Two delegates were elected for Barack Obama and one for Hillary Clinton.

  • 50 - We contacted over 50 candidates before the August 26 primary regarding our survey on LGBT issues. Many candidates earned our recommendation based on their response.

  • 50 - We registered over 50 new voters or updated registration information for current voters through registration drives held at Georgie's Alibi, MCC/King of Peace, and Detour.

  • 100 - We signed up nearly 100 voters to vote-by-mail. Of those who we signed up, we are working on getting 100% of them to send in their ballot or vote otherwise.

  • 150 - For the general election we directly contacted over 150 LGBT and LGBT-friendly households for our targeted candidate, George Gonzalez (State House, District 54), and sent out several email appeals.

  • 500 - Our Pinellas Stonewall PAC contributed $500 to Fairness for All Families to help defeat Amendment 2. We also helped by providing volunteers to assist with weekly phone banking efforts.

  • 1000 - Several volunteers prepared over 1000 newsletters for mailing out to our members, and other interested parties

  • 1,850 - Our Pinellas Stonewall PAC contributed a total of $1,850 to pro-equality candidates this election cycle, including $500 to George Gonzalez's campaign for State House (members also made individual contributions), Randall Jones (candidate for Sheriff), Ben Friedlander (candidate for Property Appraiser), Carl Zimmermann (candidate for State House, Dist. 48) and primary candidates Charles McKenzie and Darden Rice.
